The first man, made in God's image. “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.”
Found grace in the eyes of the LORD; built the ark and carried life through the flood.
Called out by God — “in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” On Mount Moriah he lifted the knife over his only son, and God provided the lamb.
The covenant passed from father to son; Jacob wrestled God and was renamed Israel.
“The sceptre shall not depart from Judah… until Shiloh come.” The royal tribe, from which the King would come.
Ruth the outsider, grafted into the line by a kinsman-redeemer — a living picture of exactly what Christ does for us.
The shepherd made king. “Thy throne shall be established for ever.” The Christ would be called the Son of David.
Solomon, then the kings of Judah, then Babylon — the line thinned to almost nothing, and God kept it alive anyway.
“When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman.”
The Root of Jesse and the offspring of David; the Lamb of God — crucified, buried, and risen. “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
You can be grafted in
A family tree is settled at birth and nobody chooses theirs. This one is different. When you give your life to Christ you are grafted into His line — not by blood, but by the blood of the Lamb.
“And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them… partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree.” — Romans 11:17
It is the only royalty that lasts, and it is the only one that is offered to everybody.
